Description

This presentation is a first approach to the digitization of emission spectra recorded on old photographic spectral plates containing analytical data on exotic sand samples. The investigated spectrograms were acquired using a high-precision Q24 Zeiss UV spectrograph with DC arc excitation which is currently preserved in the university museum collection. Following high-resolution digitization, the spectral plates were digitally compared with a scanned iron spectral atlas traditionally used for qualitative spectrochemical analysis. The digital overlay and alignment of spectra allowed for the construction of an elemental map of the analyzed specimens. The results demonstrate that digital reanalysis allows improved discerning of spectral lines and the identification of a larger number of elements compared to classical visual inspection, highlighting the advantages of digitization for both data preservation and analytical performance.
